What can l do to help stray cats? I am getting married and moving in a month and a half, and l doubt my parents will continue leaving food out (which l am considering doing but l do not want them to become dependent and then l leave and there is no more food everyday). The only ones I've seen recently is a VERY large Tom cat, and a very small female with at least two kittens.

How does one go about trapping cats, especially one that has babies? I am afraid of losing track of the kittens if the mom gets trapped. Also, where can l find traps, and how much are they to rent/buy? I am going to try and find an organization that may do this as well, l live in Central NJ if anyone knows of anything. There is an SPCA but l do not know if they go out and catch animals.

The kittens are VERY tiny but walking/running capable already ~ 4 weeks? I am thinking they are living close by, hopefully under the porch.

I would tell my parents to REMEMBER to leave out food. Call them every couple days. (so cats do not get dependant, & so they can hunt)If u want to trap one, u should trap the kittens, because they're young & naive. BUY A CAT CARIER, AND HEAVY DUTY GLOVES, AND WEAR LONG CLOTHES TO AVOID GETTIN SCRATCHED OR INFECTED! Bring out some fish (tuna, salmon, halibut, whatever) & start meowing to the best of ur ability. If u hear little meowing , start waving the fish around. If u do not try again later. Then, slowly reach out a stiff hand to kitten & try to pet it. If it backs away, grab it & put it in the carrier. If it lets u pet it, slowly get a grip on kitten & see if it will let u pick it up. When it starts to squirm, put it in the carrier. GOOD LUCK

Are the cats friendly? Do they let u pet them? If not, try to lure the cats into ur garage, & u may be able to catch them that way. You could get a live trap at ur hardware store (same thing used to live-trap squirrels & other critters).

The biggest thing, is if u do catch them, get them spayed or nuetered & vaccinated! If u do not have the money to do that, try contacting ur local cat clinic. Sometimes they will take the cats in & handle the cost of them.

You are so on the right track. A rescue group will be experienced in this matter and can help the cats and kittens find a home where they will be safe and cared for. Thank you for helping them. They need you. Do not give up. Do a Google search for cat rescue groups in the area.

You do not want to trap them cause you could hurt them. You should take them to a animal shelter where they can find a loving family.
