l love dogs and ppl think l hate cats but l actually love them too! my mum isnt against getting one and neither is my dad but these things about cats puzzle me. if u could answer then thx!

1. l know that they say cats know their owners and wont run away but i'd be so scared of letting my kitty out incase it gets in the road or cat fight or gets lost. how do u keep a cat in the house/garden cos l know they're gr8 climbers? cos like in the summer u open the sliding doors and stuff to keep cool.
2. how do u stop cats clawing at furniature and ur leg and stuff??????? (without declawing)
3. if l got a rescue cat/kitten then would it settle with my rabbit and hamster and how can i?
im just so puzzled at cats!! lol

also should l rescue a cat or adopt a kitten? remember, l might not get a cat, im just thinking/

cats??????

Rescue, keep it away from smaller animals that could be prey, and allow it to roam.

cats??????

I think there is a reason why cats r the most popular pets on the planet. Just look at how many u have to this question! I have a website (below) that can answer a lot of ur questions & more. But just a few things in general - Cats & bunnies get along fine, but I'd keep the hamster away from the kitty, at least at first until u r absolutey sure they will be okay together (and of course do not let the hamster out of its cage around the cat, because even if the cat wo not hurt him/her, the hamster will probably be frightened & run into a crack in the wall or something!

Cats r very easy to take care of, & they definitely know their names & their territories. If they like the home u give them, they will stay there or very close by. It is actually best to keep cats indoors. The ones who go out get sick more, hurt more, & they do not live as long. They can also get FIV (the cat equivalent of HIV) from other cats in the neighborhood. That said, if u live in a rural area, then its not so bad to let ur cat out. If u live in the suburbs or a city, then keep him/her indoors.

As for the question about scratching, give them scratching pads & toys, & do not worry about ur legs. Cats do not usually scratch their owners. There is a product called Soft Paws that some people use to cover the kitty is claws. Do not declaw the cat!.(Check out my second link below for more about this.)

cats??????

if cats are trained, they wont want to go out and get into fights.. so do not worry.

cats??????

please keep cats inside,i was not educated about how to have ur cat living a long happy life, but i learned my lesson i get sick of people who say let ur cats outside its cruel not to.excuse me my first cat was taken & put to sleep by animal contral because the neighbors said he was mean( he was a kitten who wanted to play)my next cat disapeared for a couple days,i found her dieing in high grass by my house she even had magetts all over her she died on the way to the vet,the vet said she was attacked by dogs.then my next cat got out & was hit by a car he suffered & died in my arms on the way to the vet.i was tramatized,my cats r always keep in the house.bad things happened to my friends cats who where left outside.my one friend thought it was safe to let her two cats out cause she lived in the country, they were killed & half eaten by wild animals.(it was tramatizing)she never lets her new cat out its safer & cheaper to keep ur cats inside if they get hurt u must go to the vet it is cruel not to,and a law in every state not providing pets with medical care will get u fined & possible jail time.protect ur pets please keep kitty in doors, and have them fixed to,thats another big thing..

cats??????

1) You're better off keeping her indoors only. There is a lot of danger in the outside world, & not all cats will stay on ''their property''.

2) Not all cats have issues with clawing, especially if they have scratching posts to use! If they do start up, it is usually easy to correct with a strong ''No,'' & possibly a squirt of water (if needed). If they already have the habit of scratching, a squirt of water may still work, but they also sell products to keep cats away from certain furniture as well as other suggestions--cross that bridge if u come to it, & do not worry about it ahead of time. Most cats r not really that much into tearing everything up anyway.

3) Depends on the individual cat. I've had gerbils & fish around my cats before.the gerbils would be friendly, come up & greet the cats, & the cats would do the same. However, we went on vacation one year & my cats kept catching & killing mice in our cabin. (I think they may have recognized the gerbils as ''family'').
As for the fish, my cats liked watching them swim, & did try to get them at first, until they realized that they couldn't!

So I'd say just be sure u keep ur animals seperated when not under supervision (if u let u rabbit roam around the house or whatever). If they r in a cage with bars too small for cat paws to fit through, u probably do not need to worry too much about it!

Cats or kittens r fine. Kittens usually have a better chance of finding homes than adult cats, so if u fall in love with an adult--I'd say go with that. However, if a kitten seems to be the one for you, go with that. You have to choose a cat u think will bond with you, reguardless of age/breed/gender or anything else. They r just as different as people!

Best wishes & I hope u enjoy ur foray into the cat world!

cats??????

I never recommend letting your cat out unprotected. Try PurrfectFence.com
or a leash and harness or other system
also ALWAYS adopt. Stop breeding there are millions of wonderful cats in need of homes. Your adoption fee will allow others to live longer too

cats??????

i luv cats,. i got 11. me n mi mum adore them but her fella h8z them !! hehe & i got a dog, 4 rabbits n a fish !!

1..keep the cat//kitten in for about 5-6 weeks before u even think about letting them out..this means they can get used to u & ur house etc. When u do decide to let her out. y not try n get a harness for her. this means she can experience outside but not run off.cus u can control where she goes. Another trick me & my mum found was to spread butter on their paws.. i dont know if this does actually work but it might be worth a try..Do u live right by a main road?? We do & what we found was if the cat went by the road we used to follow them & that meant they could see the road & all the fast cars going past, & if they did go too near we could call them back. u get a tom (male cat), it is bound to fight if there r any other toms, it is just instinct. Females don';t fight as much as toms though, only if their food or babies r at risk of being stolen or eaten!!

2. You cant really stop cats clawing at furniture but try & get a cat scratching post with CATNIP in. This is summet that cats lurvv. & r really attracted to it. This might make them step away from ur furniture. If the cat keeps climbing up ur leg u just have to keep pulling her off. My lil kitten Purz does this at the monment & it really pisses me off! You just have to be patient & keep taking her off.

3.Personally, we have always adopted kittens which r great but my best m8 adopted one from a rescue home n she is great fun too..it depends what u want. Rescue if u wanna give a poor cat whoes had a bad life, a loving home or adopt a kitten if u wanna just have fun with a lil kitten.

Baby baby kittens r best if u want it to be friends with ur rabbit & hamster. If u put the kitten in the cage//hutch withb them when it is tiny, then it should hopefully get used to it! THIS DOESNT ALWAYS WORK!!.it did with mine but i wouldnt trust it!!

I rli think u shud get a cat cus they really r gr8 fun & r always there for u when u need a cuddle n sum lurv.
Hope this helps with ur questions n if u want to no anything else. just email me n i will c if i cn help u!!

cats??????

1.It is true that cats know their owners. They will remain faithful if they r happy & it does not take much to make a cat happy. All u need to do is feed it well, show it love & attention, keep it healthy & it is home clean & give it some freedom to play outside.
There is a risk of the cat getting lost but if u micro chip it, there is every chance it will be safely returned home.
Cats do sometimes fight (some more then others) this seems to happen less if the cat is spayed or neutered. If u get pet insurance, u wo not have to worry about big vet bills.
2. To stop cats scratching, there is a spray u can buy from vets surgeries but there is no guarantee that it will work. If the scratching would bother u I suggest u do not get a cat because they like to climb curtains, scratch wall paper, carpets, furniture, EVERYTHING!
3. It is most likely that the cat would want to attack ur hamster because it is their nature. Please under no circumstances put a cat near ur hamster. As for the rabbit, I also doubt they would get on. Rabbits r strong & either the cat or the rabbit could get hurt.
Cats r wonderful pets & I have had atleast 3 at a time through my life. They r fun, loving & great company but it does come at a price.
Please think about the harder parts of having a cat before u make up ur mind.
Be aware that they cost alot of money! You would have to buy a bed, litter tray & litter, food & water bowls, a collar, toys & food. Also they need to be wormed & de-flead monthly. They can easily get ear mites (it just cost me £40 to sort out my kittens mites). They need vaccinating yearly, micro chipping, spaying/neutering & they can injure themselves at anytime. So only have a cat if it is no problem to pay all of this.
I hope I have not put u off, I just want u to be totally confident with ur decision. Like I said, cats r amazing. Every single one I've ever looked after has had their own unique personality. They have all been a part of our family. Just be sure that u can give the cat a great life before u get one.
If u do get one, I'd advise going to a rescue centre for an older cat. That way, u can ask for one that does not seem to scratch. Older cats r much easier. Plus u would be giving an old cat somewhere to finally settle & be happy.
Good luck with ur decision.

cats??????

well if you get a good cat it mit leren all that but it mit be a mean cat that cant leren anything:( so its up to the cat!REALLY

cats??????

ok first of all ignore them above me who bum the tennant!

my cat is a house cat he has only been out side a few times, they will always come back providing u dont let them out for i think its a month so they get used to u & ur house.i stopped him clawing furniture by getting a scratch mat & i pressed his claws into it, he realised that it was more effective than my sofa it just took a while for him to use it all the time.
a rescue cat will not behave with ur hamster get a kitten as it will just be curious & not want to hurt it plus then u can train it to not go near either the hamster or rabit

cats??????

I would get a rescue cat or kitten, because they need u the most & seem to know u saved them. They r usually the most loving cats u could get. Now with the hamster & rabbitt u might want to get a kitten so it will be raised with the rabbitt & leave it alone or it might even play with the rabbitt ( like mine do ), but as for the hamster sorry to say a cat or kitten will probally always try to have it as a snack. As for the clawing get a scratch post , I have never had a cat claw my leg. If u let ur cat outside be sure to have it fixed, that way they wo not wonder as much, but they will wonder & be sure to have tags w/your info on it so in case he gets lost & someone picks him up, they will know he belongs to someone.

cats??????

1. if u keep ur cat in for at least 4 weeks (unless u get a kitten) when u first get it u have nothing to worry about, it will remember where its ohme is & it probably wont go far at first anyway. If ur worried about ur cat getting run over then im sorry but its a thing u will just have to live with. if u dont think u can handle ur cat dying not long after u get it i dont think ur quite cut out to be a cat owner, sorry. u can not keep ur cat just in the house & garden (unless u want it to be a house cat in which case u do not let it out at all) as it will get bored. u need to let ur cat explore other gardens but it wont go far so u dont have to worry about it.
2. if ur cat claws at the furniture u should get either a tin full of coins or a squirty bottle of water then u either squirt watter at it or shake the tin of coins. This may seem mean & u wont like doing it at all as it will terrify ur cat but its the only way to stop it.
3. i think getting a rescue kitten is a great idea but it may not be very happy in the company of ur other pets. Plus i think u should only get a cat if ur absolutely certain u can look after all 3 animals. if u r cleaning out a hamster cage & a rabbit hutch & feeding them then u might not have the time fore a cat. (although they r quite independant animals & dont require as much attention as dogs)

i think it would be best for u to get a cat thats already 1 year old so ur not starting from scratch. then u wont have as much trouble training it to use the litter tray & it wont require as much attention.

hope this helps!

cats??????

1 - If u want a cat, keep it inside to it will not be killed by dogs, vehicles, parasites & vicious people who poison, shoot & burn them for fun. An indoor cat is cleaner, healthier, & safer. If u open ur sliding doors to keep cool co not u let all the insects in the neighborhood into ur house? How about screen doors to keep bugs out & cats in.
2 - You get a scratching post. Teach the cat that this is the place. Most of them will use this naturally. In case they do not, u can get a special spray from the vet that will be unpleasant to the cat. they will stay away from that area.

3 - Cats r predatory. If they have been brought up as house cats they will usually not tend to kill for fun or food. Still, the hamster should be kept in a cage that the cat cannot reach through.

4 - By all means, save some cat in a shelter from certain death. The best is to bring a cat up as a kitten. You will likely have 16 to 18 years of companion. Also it will adapt to u much more easily than a grown cat might. But in any case. there is some cat waiting for a good home & u can provide that is u so decide.

cats??????

1.just do not let the cat outside.
2.get a cat scratcher for the cat
3.get a puzzle of animals at TOYS R US
4. just get a kitten

cats??????

1.) I do not let mine out, but when I have a door or window open, I have a screen between her & the outside.
2.) To keep her from scratching on the furniture ,carpets, etc. I trim her nails every few weeks, & I have a sisal rope scatching post I made by wrapping sisal rope around a piece of wood.
3.) cats r not great areound small fuzzy animals, unless they r around each other young, or u get a cat that only gazes at u & does not see the animals!

Definitly rescue the cat/ kitten. remeber, u have to train a kitten, & do a little more work with a kitten than a full grown, independant, cat.
Good luck, & remember a cat is a full life commetment & cats can live 18+ years.

cats??????

Im the same as u love dogs & cats..

For kittens, u walk them around with a bit of string lots in the garden so they know where to come back to at first. You feed them at regular times so they come back for that. You keep them in at night to decrease road accidents & hunting.

You buy scratch post & put them on if they go to scratch ur furniture.. but mainly play for 2x15 minute sessions a day to help expell activity.

Any cat needs to have time to be introduced to rabbit & hamster regardless of rescue or not but yes I think they would. Just supervise at first.

Finally I adopted a second kitten last night from a rescue shelter.. He is soooooo beautiful & really affectionate. He is 8 months old & I am just trying to get him settled in our house.. but the joy I have at giving him a home knowing no one wanted him is just so overwhelming..

Go for it!

cats??????

If at all possible, u should keep ur kitty indoors if u live in an urban environment.

When ur cat chews or claws, tell them no. They will learn fast, they r smart.

If u r willing to train it yourself, a kitten is a great option.

If ur other pets r cages, u have no worries about that.

If u r not, u may want to look for a grown cat, however, be certain to spend some extra time with it at the shelter so u know if it 'really' is litter trained & friendly, & also, if it was allowed to chew or claw furniture as a kitten, they probably would not know it there, & it will probably behave that way for the rest of it is life.

cats??????

I BUM DAVID TENNANT!!!!

I had twelve cats up until last week but now I only had four because I had to get rid of them. Get a rescue cat if your gonna get one because those are the ones that need the most love.
